About

Labeled pantry jars on open wooden shelves

We publish practical stories for people who enjoy noticing how ordinary things work.

Wayside Notes is an independent-style journal about the useful details around us: the tools we keep, the routes we repeat, the rooms that work well, and the small observations that make a familiar day feel more specific.

We are interested in subjects that reward close attention. That might mean carrying one lens on a camera walk, deciding what deserves space on a kitchen counter, keeping a marked paper map after a trip, or arranging a desk so tomorrow’s work is easier to begin.

How we edit

Each piece starts with a concrete question and stays close to the objects, places and decisions involved. We prefer clear examples over grand claims, and photographs that genuinely belong beside the text.

The aim is simple: publish stories that are pleasant to read once and useful enough to revisit later.

01

Concrete over grand

A precise observation is often more useful than a sweeping conclusion.

02

Photographs that belong

Every image should clarify the place, object or process beside the text.

03

Worth reopening

We edit for pieces that remain useful when you return to them later.
